Who’s Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Close Brothers AM, Cazenove Capital, Others

Close Brothers Asset Management     
UK-based Close Brothers Asset Management has appointed John Hair and Charles Insley as investment directors within CBAM’s Bespoke Investment Management team to help grow the business after a year of personnel expansion in the UK.

Based in London, they will be responsible for managing key relationships with CBAM’s clients, the firm said in a statement.

With over 28 years of experience in financial services, Hair joins from abrdn, where he was chief investment officer of its private client business. He began his career with Henderson, before moving to Newton in 2002, where he managed private client portfolios and later became head of investments for private clients. 

Hair has investment management experience, and strong, long-term relationships with clients.

Insley is also joining from abrdn, where he was head of international private clients. He has over 25 years of experience in financial services, both in investment management and working with private clients. 

Welcoming them to the firm, Giles Marshall, head of Bespoke at CBAM, said: “John and Charles’ appointments show CBAM’s continued success in attracting top talent in our industry and bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience. I’m delighted to welcome John and Charles to CBAM, and I look forward to working with them both over the coming years."

Close Brothers Asset Management, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, provides a range of advice, investment management and self-directed services to private clients and professional advisors. 

The business operates from offices in London, Bristol, Chester, Manchester, Gatwick, Newcastle, Midlands, Farnham, Northwich, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Cazenove Capital
Wealth manager Cazenove Capital, part of the Schroders Group, has appointed Chris Arbuthnott this week as a portfolio director, to meet client demand.

In this-newly created role, he will work with Bob Hair, Cazenove regional head of Scotland, to service the existing client base, whilst supporting the region’s vibrant and growing community of entrepreneurs and business owners. He will focus on looking after clients in Aberdeen and the north of Scotland, the firm said in a statement.

This recent appointment is the latest development in Cazenove Capital’s regional growth strategy. Since January 2020, the firm has opened offices in Manchester and Birmingham and appointed 17 senior hires across the country.

He brings with him over 22 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including senior roles at Barclays Wealth and HSBC Private Bank. Over the past 13 years, he has been advising entrepreneurs, business owners and families across Scotland.

Arbuthnott said: “During these challenging times, advice that is truly aligned to clients values and tailored to their aspirations and priorities is even more important. Our clients can be confident that they will receive this from us.”

Hair added: “Chris Arbuthnott will help to advise Cazenove Capital’s growing family of clients in Aberdeen and the North of Scotland. I am delighted to welcome Chris to the business.”

Ogier
Ogier, the offshore law firm, has appointed senior litigator Rebecca McNulty in Jersey.

A senior member of the firm’s dispute resolution team, McNulty has been closely involved in the growth of Ogier's offering in Jersey, Ogier said.

Recent cases McNulty has worked on include advising the Viscount of the Royal Court of Jersey on all matters relating to the desastres of a local GP and Jersey incorporated company, related proceedings before the English High Court, described by the court as being of "labyrinthine complexity," and the realisation of assets following a trial in the English proceedings in 2021, advising a leading real estate provider in respect of its administration and related cross-border transactions, and advising a high profile UHNW client in respect of freezing and other interim orders obtained against him in aid of enforcement of a foreign judgment.
